Throw away your old bank statements. Stretch. Don't feel guilty if you don't know what to do with your life. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. Read the directions, even if you don't follow them. Do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly. Get to know your parents. You never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings. They're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who knew you when you were young. Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft. Travel. Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And then you do you'll fantasise that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders. Respect your elders. Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund. Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might run out. Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 40 it will look like 85. Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more that it's worth. But trust me on the sunscreen. |

| | happy | ] | Today has been one of the best days I've had in the longest time. Albeit humiliating myself, by calling this guy with the totally wrong name, his name's Dudz, I called him Von. What the--?? As well as staying in school for 5 hours just to attend a makeup class, it still has been a totally, and beyond comparison, great day for me.
1. I got a 42/44 on my Accounting Quiz. It was a crappy, confusing adjusting one. 2. I got 97% in my Math MIdterm, could've done better (there were lots of bonus points), but this is good enough as it is. 3. Had my favorite Beef McRice for lunch, complete with orange juice, fries, and sundae cone. (I'll work it out, I promise.) 4. Bumped into Sam in McDo! Felt like I haven't seen her in some time. 5. Had lots of laughs and "quotable quotes" with my friends. :D
I haven't had one of these in a long time, and I think it did wonders for me. |

| | happy | ] | I read The Time Traveller's Wife the other day, and it was a really good ending. I cried at the end, rarely has a book ever done that to me, yet this one did!
"Time is Nothing."
I'm reading Princess Bride now. Trying to finish reading all the books I've bought before but never ever got around to reading. Hope it doesn't disappoint! The movie was nice.
** Is it because things are truly disappointing that I find myself utterly frustrated at times? Or is it because of the fact that I have idealistic views for some things that when they fail to reach to my standards, I get frustrated?
** I just realized that I like boardwalk carnivals. I wish i could run away to one, and live there. Beautiful.

| Of Valentine's Day! |

| | cheerful | ] | Admittedly, I inwardly cringe when I see those red cut out cartolina hearts or those cartoon versions of Cupid on glass doors and windows. They've always just been rather.. cheesy. But today, after spending the whole of "Mushy Day" (as my friends put it) in school, I realized that watching the whole world fall in love all in a day, is amusing and nice, if anything. The extent of Valentine's Day festivities in DLSU is simply just, wow. It was pretty fun to watch an entire chorale disturb our Filipino class just to seranade someone. Happened again in Computer class, with a mini orchestra this time.
So people say that Valentine's Day is just a dumb Hallmark holiday, but it's not really. If you pause to take a look around, people really do spread the love on Valentine's Day, and its not just for significant others in particular, but also to family or friends. I don't think Valentine's Day has lost its touch with the commercialized greetings, and promos and stuff like that. I think that's the beauty of Valentine's Day for this generation.
For once every year, even just for a day, people see the world in rose colored glasses and fall head over heels in love.
And that just makes all those red cartolina hearts oh so worth it. |

| | pleased | ] | Grades are just numbers, grades aren't the world, but boy could they make you happy when gotten right. :D :D I got my course cards today, and they were better than I expected! They weren't as high as first term's, but they are pretty good nontheless. Despite my 65 in Math, I still managed to get a 3.5, YAY! Thank you, Dr. Galvez, for making our Physics Lecture final waaaay easier compared to our previous long tests. Thank you, Sir Warlito, for being nice enough to overlook my one tardy, making me eligible for that + .5 in my final grade.
AND YES! I passed ROTC, good bye waking up at 5AM on Saturdays. Sammey, it's time to par-tay on Friday nights! Lol. |

| | relieved | ] | YAY! Finally, all the finals are done with, and all the requirements have been passed. I'm FREEEE. :D I can now successfully ruin my life by finishing Diner Dash 3, with no guilty feelings. Lol.
I watched Rent again yesterday in Shang, and I still can't get over how good it is. I love the songs, I love the story, I love Rent. Jonathan Larson, you rock. Was in for quite an adventure yesterday. After my last exam, (Physics Lab--I love our Physics prof! Though she made the term hard, the finals were so much of a give away! 80% of the questions were exactly the same as those from our previous long tests!), went to Shang to eat and watch a movie with some friends. Somehow, we successfully killed all 7 hours we had free before we had to go to UP, for some dance show thing, because of incentives from our Econ teacher. The dance was actually nice, very artsy! But I left early. I went straight to bed when I got home.. tired from all the days of studying and brochure making I guess. December 19 course card, I hope I get good grades!
Second term flew by in a breeze. It's funny how I never really get adjusted to the subjects and professors until the term's over. 14 weeks is just too short a time I guess.. I'll miss my blockmates, won't be in the same classes for next term.
I miss Lloyd, I wish he would come home, even just for a day, and that would make me so damn happy.
Hmm.. Must start working on transfer apps. I think I want this.. or do I?
I hate being indecisive. It kills me.
..But whatever, I'm going shopping later! :D |

| | happy | ] | Haven't had something like this in the longest time. I woke up this morning with, surprisingly, nothing to do.. I had finished my English survey report yesterday, as well as that Chapter 3 on Rizal's Life just by around midnight. Without ROTC or LaSallian layout duties, I proceeded to bum around at home. Bumming is fun! I wanna be a bum. HAHAHA.
So today: I slept. I read a bit of The Time Traveller's Wife. I tidied up my room, discovering some Easter Spongebob tart candy, which I ended up eating. I ate a Krispy Kreme doughnut. (HURRAH to the geniuses who brought this amazing brand over here!) I chatted. I drove to MTQ without a driver's license. I felt more relaxed than I have ever been for a long time now. I checked out LJ secret.
I love bum days. :D |

| | grumpy | ] | I now know why I came so close to failing my last math quiz. CALCULATOR!!! I entered log .45/log 1.55, instead of log.45= answer/log 1.55. How should I know it would yield a different answer?? Darn! And as if to add more salt to the injury, may SOLVE FOR X FUNCTION ang calculator ko. I should've used that. I could just bonk myself in the head for being sooo darned stupid! 30 points, down the drain.. Good bye 4.0 in BUSMATH :(
GRAR.
Note to self: Use the Solve for X function next time.

But sadly, it wasn't good enough to get them into the World Series.
It was a championship waiting to happen..but it didn't.
Where was the magic when we needed it?
It's been 6 years of long waits and shattered hopes.
It was a disappointment, but the Yankees are still my heroes.

1 Religion professor who stubbornly wants to make religion rational for EVERYONE. Does he realize how highly impossible that is? And religion isn't always rational, that's the beauty of it.
1 Cheatmate. So called because he cheats and copies all your answers in a very garapal mode. Also interrupts your panic sessions when you have mental block on your Econ exam by asking you how to answer Test D. That same test you were panicking about. Asks "Bea, ano sagot sa Test B number 2?" OUT LOUD. Done several times, mind you. At least he was smart enough to do it when the prof was not in the room, but still, that doesn't justify anything.
1 Econ Exam. First time I got a mental block on the exam. Good thing that the prof was willing enough to entertain my nonsense questions and to give me tips on how to reach the answer. Phew. But that doesn't make him a great prof, he doesn't teach, at all. Argh. Hard exam due to his inability to teach and explain properly.
5 hours of sleep. I know it's not that little, but it still made me feel woozy this morning.
Cheerer Uppers: 1. ROTC Performance- The guys' rendition of Stars are Blind was enough to make me snap out of my bad mood. 2. Taekwondo PE- Got reminded of the good old dorky taekwondo days. Days of the kicking pads, 45 kicks and charriots. :P 3. Lloydie- "I miss you more than I thought was possible" Sweet. :P 4. NO CLASSES TOMORROW, YAY. :D

I'm supposed to be studying for my Math Final now, but I just don't feel like it anymore. Plus my hand hurts from solving way too much Algebra problems. I dislike matrices, they make my world go crazy. :( I hope I get a good grade on Math, aiming for that 3.5! (Since hindi na kaya mag 4.0, boo :( ) Term break's so close, I can just taste the freedom, but not quite yet, there is still a Math Final, Psych project, Computer Final, and Chem paper.
Things to do for term break: 1. Get a driver's license. 2. Clean up my room. 3. Read.
I'll add to the list when I think of something, although knowing me, I wouldn't end up doing any. :P

Waking Up in the City That Never Sleeps
New York City did not necessarily welcome me with open arms. The first time I set foot in the Big Apple, I was only 13, dizzy and jet lagged from the previous day’s flight. In my eyes then, New York was one giant workplace. Skyscrapers and office buildings lined up every empty space. People seemed cold and impersonal, as they rushed off to work in their all black power suits, cellular phones in one hand, coffee on the other. I vividly remember sticking out like a sore thumb in my maroon sweater, jeans and rubber shoes and feeling lost in the sea of corporate people, one of the few tourists among a million natives. I’m not really sure how, but somehow, amidst the bad traffic and indifferent people, somewhere in between the subway ride from downtown to the Upper West side, I completely fell in love with the city that never sleeps.
I wasn’t exactly sure when my love affair with this city began. Perhaps it started with Serendipity 3 Café’s Frozen Hot Chocolate, Strand Bookstore’s wide array of books (it claims to have 8 miles of books), or Times Square’s vibrant and colorful lights at night. Maybe it was the rows and rows of shops lining up Fifth Avenue and 34th Street, or the majesty of the Statue of Liberty, standing in all its glory on Ellis Island which made me see beyond my first impression of the city. Regardless of where or when it started, I couldn’t deny the fact that the city was slowly working its charm on me. I had started to love every bit of it. Central Park’s vast green fields complete with the view of the buildings just right behind the tall trees gave me a sense of tranquility. Looking up from the park, one can easily spot the Empire State Building in its entire splendor, glistening under the hot sun injecting a sense of awe. Of course, Broadway is not one to be forgotten. The superb acting, intricately-made props and impressive effects are indeed at their best here. Coney Island, complete with its wooden rollercoaster and carnival-like boardwalk, had somehow made me feel giddy and excited. I ultimately lost myself in all the art and beauty of The Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as the Museum of Modern Art. Even the relatively trivial things, such as the crowded subway trips and my first slice of genuine cheesy New York Pizza thrilled me. In many ways, the city has awoken in me a spirit I never knew I had.
Walking down the streets of New York after rush hour is always a visual treat. One can never miss out on the different products sold by sidewalk vendors. Hotdogs with the works, bagels with cream cheese, imitation wallets, clothes and the like, well read second hand books and Chinese paintings to name a few. The variety of different cultures in the city also adds to the mystery and charm of it all. There are the intellectual Asians who are seemingly absorbed in their own thoughts, the rather expressive Latinos who laugh wholeheartedly while strolling about the sidewalks, the artistic African Americans who wouldn’t hesitate to show their talents to the world and the confident Caucasians who would always be armed with a smile. There are also a lot of interesting personalities to note, the bohemian artist with his vintage outfits, the fashion trendsetter with his designer clothes, and the mysterious one in his perennial black attire, among a few.
When I went to New York five years ago, I somehow left my heart there, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t seem to get it back. Maybe in the future, I’ll find myself on a plane back to the Big Apple, in an attempt to get my heart back, but ultimately leaving so much more than I originally left behind. Perhaps this is just the start of it all, my never ending love affair with the city that never sleeps. |

1. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision. To stay here for you, or for the love of you for that matter.
2. I'm finding it really hard right now to be your friend. It seems that you're subtly pushing me away, plus it seems extra tiring to be there for you lately. Give me a call when you're done making parinig, I don't want to hear any of those anymore, maybe then we can work things out.
3. I love you. I hope you can stay here forever. It's gonna be so hard to watch you go again.
4. I miss you and our laughing over mundane things. Looking forward to when you're coming home so we can be complete again.
5. Thanks for always listening to my ramblings and my beef about the world. You rock my effing socks. :P
6. I wonder if maybe someday we'll be as good friends again as we once were.
7. Don't be sad-- We're all a little mixed up once in a while. I hope you find the right path for you, and regardless of which, I'm sure you'll shine.

| | complacent | ] | After about a month in DLSU, I can say I am getting used to it. I'm a lot happier now, and dwelling lesser on the "what-ifs" and regrets. I'm pretty much enjoying the company of my new friends, although nothing still beats my barkada. (I miss you guys so damn much:( Let's get together soon, puh-leeze.) It's really a lot more laid back than high school, and I feel so much more adult-y & independent. The only thing which sucks so bad about school is that it's really far and I have to leave the house an hour before class starts, and wake up another hour before leaving. My precious sleeping hours down the drain. :/ There's so much food around, I think I'm gonna get fat in school. Bah. Since I started, my sense of time has been warped. Due to our early breaks, we eat lunch at 10, and I noticed that I'm always hungry. That's weird. Oh well. :)
Mishmash thoughts: I love this weekend, no ROTC. Thank goodness, ROTC is such a waste of my time. :P Loid's coming home tomorrow, yay. Need to do do Polsci and Psych papers again. For the nth time. Grar. Looking forward to see Ro and company on Friday. I hope I pass The La Sallian features or layout staff. I love Thursdays, 10am class, my latest for the whole week. :) |
